Alt-pop singer-songwriter Mezz Coleman creates songs of longing, love and grief. Using the art of pop music, she explores feelings and experiences that are often unspoken about; tenderly bringing difficult themes out from the shadows for a moment in the sun. Inspired by Kate Bush, Tori Amos and Joan as Policewoman, her whimsical arrangements are full of shape, colour and texture- and always topped with her signature breathy, yet powerful voice. Mezz’s live shows feature vocal looping, showcasing her masterful command of creating sonic landscapes with harmony.
Since releasing her much anticipated sophomore album “I Never Said a Word” (produced by Rohan Sforcina) in 2023, Mezz has performed sold out shows in her home town Naarm/Melbourne, toured regionally, received extensive airplay, and collaborated on an electronic dance remix with UK producer Champion Fever. She received an Australian Independent Record Labels Association's (AIR) Women in Music Mentorship and was also selected by the peer panel for Arts and Culture Maribyrnong’s Creative Development Program, a two week Artist-in-Residence project and grant.
Mezz has worked with many Australian music industry veterans including Kimbra, Shane Howard (Goanna), Dallas Frasca, Sara Storer and Georgia Fields, playing such venues as the Myer Music Bowl, Federation Square, Northcote Social Club and numerous folk, pop and jazz festivals around the country.
Mezz has been quietly working on her third studio album “Forty Days and Forty Nights” which will bravely take her listeners on a journey into the wilderness of the pain, joy and lessons found in mid-life.
“Torn from the book of song, Mezz Coleman has delivered an album of rare familiarity. Tender and delicate, yet so robust, its songs threaten to get up, waltz around the room and make you breakfast” Alexander Gow (ARIA winning singer-songwriter and host of “One Guitar” podcast)
“I'm a sucker for a great lyric- this music is about something, and you don't need to strain your ears to hear what that thing is” Simon Price (UK music journalist for Independent on Sunday and BBC radio and TV)
“Undeniably brilliant” Joe Wilkinson and David Earl (Chatabix podcast)
